STERLING, ILL., January I9, 1889.
To MESSRS REED & CARNRICK,
GENTLEMEN : Allow me to congratulate you upon`the` efficient and elegant combination Phospho-Caffein Compound, for headaches, neuralgia, insomnia, neurasthenia, and general nervous irritability. I have never found its equal. I have had the satisfaction of getting early and satisfactory results, and therefore cheerfully recommend it to the general practitioner as a valuable combination.
Very truly yours,
JNO. B. RANDALL, M.D.,
Health Commissioner City of Sterling.

REED & CARNRICK are now putting up a peptonized milk and cod liver oil, which for a cod liver oil preparation goes far ahead of anything that we have ever tasted. Anyone can take it, and children seem to like it. It does not disarrange the stomach, and, it is claimed, does not regurgitate, as nearly all the other compounds or the clear articles do.

1884

REED & CARNRICK have a preparation of the nutritious constituents of beef, wheat and milk which. is well adapted for weak stomachs and is highly recommended by those who have used it. Read their advertisement. Is IT the hard times that prevent our numerous readers from sending their subscriptions to us ? Many are in arrears three years. Is this the way to keep a live journal in existence ? Pay up so that we can replenish our small bank account. Thirtieth and last call MALTINE! MALTINE! Who has not used it. We have families who buy it by the half dozen bottles, keep it on hand constantly and would not be without it. Maltine and Hops is the compound which they cling to.

The city of Yonkers at an early hour yesterday morning was visited by a fire which destroyed property valued at nearly a quarter of a million dollars. Shortly after 4 o'clock a man named H. Gottiler, who slept in the large five-story brick building bounded by Dock and Nepperhan streets, owned by the estate of C. H. Lilienthal. the millionaire tobacco merchant, and occupied by Reed & Carnrick and John E. Andrus, as a manufactory for patent medicines, was awakened by the barking of two dogs that were kept in the place. His room was filled with smoke and he could hear the crackling of burning timbers. He had Just time to flee from the building and save his life. When he reached the street lie found a crowd collected about the building and the fire bell sounding the alarm. The upper part of the factory was completely enveloped in flames, and as the material was of a very inflammable nature it burned rapidly.

The satisfactory results produced by PHOSPHO-CAFFEIN COMP. in Headaches, Neuralgia, Insomnia, Neurasthenia, and general Nervous Irritability, are not due to the effect of any one ingredient, but to the happy effect of the combination. A thorough series of comparative tests have demonstrated the superiority of the above formula over any other in the market. REED & CARNRICK, New York.

They produced a beautiful cobalt bottle in the 1860-1870s with the RCA logo on the shoulder. This might have been a container for Cod Liver Oil.
