Subject: Opalescent 8 1/2 high corked bottle

Date: 01-12-2004

Digger, got a clear, opalescent, and white 8 1/2" high corked bottle from my Mom and want to know about its history, popularity, and worth. On the bottom it reads "Federal Law Forbids sale or use of this bottle" D-334 119 57 6 or it could be read D-334 119 6 57. The center embossing has a star with 8 semi- triangles making up the star, 8 diamonds are around the star, and 24 circles are outside of the diamonds. In between the diamonds are 8 "crown" like cuts with 7 circles underneath. The mold seam goes over the lip which is round and smooth. The bottle is round with a flares base and has a handle like one would find on a whiskey jug - made for one finger. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Dutch writing along ribbon ends. Center in English states: By Appointment to H.R.H. Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands.

Front lower label (shows trademark picture as a watermark) : DISTILLED HOLLANDS GIN 4/5 QUART DISTILLED FROM GRAIN 85 PROOF This crock contains the well - known genuine HULSTKAMP SCHIEDAM DISTILLED GIN of prime quality. bottled by us, Kindly see that our stamped capsule and the cork with our brand are intact and have not been tampered with. I hope you can help. I have several J.W. Dant Americana Collection Bottle series showing great moments in history. (Boston Tea Party, Alamo, Patrick Henry, etc.) On the eagle side some of the eagles are facing different directions. My husband said that the bottles with the eagles facing a certain way were rare, but he can not remember if it is the left or right facing eagle. And also, is it the way you are looking at the bottle or as if you were the eagle looking over your own shoulder? Thanks for whatever info you can give me. Debra

Subject: Old Mason Bottle

Date: 03-12-2004

Hi There, My problem is trying to identify an old now Purple Mason Jar? Bottle? It says Mason's 3 FL OZ just below the shoulder. The opening appears to have been closed by a cork or possibly pry off cap. There is just a very slight protrusion around the top that could have possibly held a metal cover. Inside diameter of opening is approx. 3/4 inch, stands almost 4 inches high and approx 1 3/4 across. There are two seam lines, air bubble inclusions and appears to be hand blown into a mold. The neck of this bottle is 9/10 of an inch high. This is added into the total measurement of height. After just looking again under a magnifying lamp it appears that the top rim which is thick may be an attachment as the seam lines are just a bit off so this little lip I see on the top may not really have held a cap. I have searched many places and asked a lot of people about this and no one can give me an answer so hopefully you can. I will anxiously be waiting to hear from you. If necessary I can take a digital picture and mail it to you. I'm just not that great of a photographer. Thanks so much. Pat

I just sent you an e-mail and forgot to include the bottom description Thick bottom, with seam that goes around the circumference, round smooth pontil mark and no other identifying marks on the bottom. Pat

Hello This question involves a ink bottle related item, I'm wondering if you had an idea of rarity, desirability amongst ink bottle collectors and value. I recently acquired a book written by Thaddeus Davids 1860 entitled "The History of Ink" its in quite good shape the only damage being a small repairable tear to the binding. It is signed and dedicated: "Gilman Henry Tucker from Thaddeus Davids 1860." Gilman Henry Tucker is the founder of the American Book Company a publisher of text and Law books. I imagine Thaddeus Davids' signature is quite rare, as this book is fairly uncommon. I appreciate any input Thanks!

Subject: Hartman's bottle

Date: 04-12-2004

I have an old Hartman's bottle from Hartman Beverage Company in Knoxville, TN. I have read that the Hartman brother's are the fellows that "invented" Mountain Dew, and that later bottled the "hillbilly" bottle that is must have for a lot of collector's. My bottle is not stamped with it's volume, but it looks like a 12oz soda type bottle. It has a crown top and it doesn't look to have any seams elsewhere on the bottle . It only says Hartman' s once on each side and on the bottom is a "C" in a circle and Hartman Beverage Company Knoxville Tenn, and the number 4. What other kinds of drinks or "mixers" did they bottle. Was this what they bottled before Mountain Dew? Other bottles in our dig site date back to the 20's-40's. Any info would be great, I love your site. Thanks, Scott

There was one previous mention to the same bottle, posted in the message board dated Oct. 2003, to which there was no response from you. I'm hoping that in the past year, perhaps you are now more familiar with this specific item. It is an old whisky bottle, marked Marie Josef LaFayette. Identical to the one posted on your message board, with the exception of color. The one this other person had was brown, and ours is a turquoise color. Hi, I am an undergrad student in Waltham, MA, and my Archaeology group is attempting to identify and date a fragmented bottle we dug up. We hope that you may be able to help us. We are particularly interested in identifying what the bottle held, dating it, and possibly identifying the company that made it. Pictures are attached. The Bottle 1. Embossing: ?The arched writing on the top is incomplete. What can be made out of the 1.5 cm tall writing is ?PU?EO?A? with ? representing unknown ?Beneath this ?BOSTON? is written and 1.5 cm tall ?The opposite side of the bottle reads: REGISTERED PINT AND 12 FL OZ ?The base is embossed with ?1924? 2. Color: aqua-green 3. The lip of the bottle is missing; however the bottle is 15.25 cm (6 in) from base to the bottom of the shoulder. Where the lip would be, appears to be about 2.5 cm. 4. As the lip is missing we are unable to determine if the bottle is BIM or ABM. It does have side seems. 5. Style of top is unknown 6. Style of closure is unknown, no closure found 7. The base is smooth base with embossing. 8. The condition: The bottle is broken into many pieces and approximately 90% of the bottle (minus the neck) exists. Most of the damage occurs in the top half with almost all of the neck missing. Other Measurements: Diameter: 8.5 cm / 3 in 5 cm thickness of glass Any information you can give us or point us towards would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Jenny Attachments: b

Subject: Question about Wooden Wine Bottle.

Date: 06-12-2004

I have a wooden wine bottle and I am trying to find someone that knows anything about it? It has 3 large brass rings around it holding together 4 pieces of wood that make up the bottle. It then has a round bottom piece to complete the bottle. It appears to be made of oak and has a waxy like substance that coats the inside of the bottle. The top has a cap ring and the cork is a wooden screw with a brass piece on top. Can you lead me to anyone who might know anything about it? Thanks for any help. Wayne Bradley

Hi, I found an old bottle in a field near my house. The bottle was labeled as a Wolverine Beverage bottle from detroit, michigan; and was dated october 28, 1924. I had noticed another letter written to you on your website describing the same kind of bottle as mine, but there was no response to it. I was hoping maybe you could send me some information on the bottle. Thanks.

Subject: Question

Date: 06-12-2004

Dear Sir, My uncle is in possession of a bottle that I cannot find information about. I tried to take pictures of it but they did not come out well. I would like to buy one of your books if I knew which one to buy since I'm not sure where this one falls. Please advise if possible.... The bottle in question is a clear bottle. It is the same height as modern day canning jars (Ball in particular). It is more rounded than a canning jar. The only embossing on the side is a the bottom: 4/5 QUART. On the bottom, it has this embossing: 1099 2 LIQUOR BOTTLE 123 (a star) 75 I do not remember a seam. The most puzzling to it is the lid. It is a 'screw on' lid, metal, with a 'bow shape' cut out of the top, completely through the metal. On second thought, I'll send the pictures even though they are awful. I did notice that somewhere in allllll of those questions/answers that another person had asked the same question but didn't have any pictures. Thanky ou very much for any direction you can point me in... Stephanie A. Eudy

Hello and thank you for all the info you've given all. This bottle my husband dug up in Brownsville, TN well over 40 yrs ago so it has shovel marks front and back (worst) and a chip on the lip. It is embossed with "WEST TENN BOTTLING AND ICE CREAM CO" in the center is " BROWNSVILLE TENN". It has a crown lip with no seams, one side of the inside is not smooth, has a small indention and (tool) markings around top of lip, thickness varies. it has seams up both sides, one side ends at rim and the other ends where taper begins. The glass is smooth feeling but you can see markings, like a semi smooth orange peel and it has a few "seeds". Rolling it in your hands you can feel that it's not a true round shape, more so at the taper beginning. The bottm back edge has "11- S A B Co". The bottom rim has seams, a ring around it that is raised in one area and indented in the other. The bottom is sloppy, not smooth. The bottle rocks a bit when you sit it down so it's not level. It is dark brown (amber) and heavy. It's 7 1/2" high and weighs about 15 oz. Dirt has been washed off but inside has not been cleaned. Anything you know will be helpful, I'm thinking of selling it. Thank you. Attachments: Soda Bottle 019.jpg Soda Bottle 024.jpg Soda Bottle 026.jpg

Please get back to me ASAP!, I have al ot of other bottles i would like your help with if you have time. also i will be ordering some more books from ya!, there better than any other bottle book i have read in the past!, A++++ good job and hatts off Thanks, R. I have been around in circles about this - I am not a bottle collector and so am completely lost about this bottle and before I try to sell it - I want to know what it is. I don't run across bottles too often - however we recovered a few from a barn which collapsed - and the material in the barn has been dated from 1850-1940 so far. I have attached the pictures I have. I believe it is a McK GXII-31 as it has the clasped hands and the eagle on the back. The seam does go up to the top of the lip. I don't know how to tell if it is a repo or original. Any help you can give would be great - even just to point me in the right direction :) Thank you! Dana Sacco Attachments: bottle 1.jpg bottle 2.jpg bottle 3.jpg bottle 4.jpg

Subject: I found this old bottle

Date: 10-12-2004

Hi, my name is April, and my husband's grandmother had passed away, and she was 85 years old. I went and found this old bourbon whiskey bottle in the attic of the house and thought it would be good to hold change. I cleaned it up and it almost looks new. It is in really great shape. It is an Old Crow Brand bottle, and it is empty. The bottle is clear, the neck is kind of tall and wide. From the neck to the top base is straight raised lines the lines meet a raised circle at the top base. The words "FEDERAL LAW FORBIDS SALE OR RE USE OF THIS BOTTLE" is raised around the top of the raised circle. All of the paper on the bottle is cream and gold. It has 86 Proof One gallon up on the top of the bottle on the paper. It also Says that It is Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The word Original is in gold and then W.A. Gaines is in black kinda cursive writing over the word original. It has" Division of The Old Crow Distillery Company on the bottom of the larger paper in front. FRANKFORT, KY. . LOUISVILLE , KY OLD CROW BRAND reg. U.S. Pat. Off. " The front has a picture of a crow in a tux and top hat in like a globe, on top by mouth of bottle and picture of small town between OLD CROW BRAND and the word Kentucky. THe word Kentucky is in red Cursive type of writing. On back of the bottle there is a little paper in the middle of the bottle that gives a little history of the whiskey and says its originally distilled in 1835 by a Dr. JAMES CROW. Says it's distributed by National Distillers Products Co. Straight Bourbon Whiskey and says it's four years old. Since it has been opened most of the top seal is gonebut I can read the numbers 39108 clearly on the side of the cap and that is the only part of the seal that is left. The bottom of the bottle instead of being flat is a bunch of raised bumps. Anyways, I found this bottle and wondered how old it is, from what year it was made because there is no year on the bottle at all anywhere. And is it worth any kind of money that I need not to put change in and keep it for my kids? Please help me. If you can't can you direct me to who can tell me? I will be waiting on your e-mail reply thank you. Sincerely, April

Date: 12-12-2004

Hello Digger, Thanks for the great website and the opportunity to ask questions! I've attached photos of an old whiskey bottle I picked up in an antique store because of its unusual bright teal color. It is about 10 1/2 inches tall and about 4 inches across the base, has no seams but does have the concentric swirls from turn-molding, and a drippy tapered lip. It has a crooked neck and a fairly large "sand pit" on the shoulder. The strangest thing is the etching on the neck- 1L over a dumbell-shaped line then V+9 42 (it is sandblasted in, not acid etched). The "L" looks like it might be a British pound sign. I would be interested in knowing if you've seen anything like this before, your opinion on its age (maybe 1870s by the lip?), and what the etching would have been for. Thanks your help! Subject: Question about my canning bottle I bought...... Thanks for your time! :)

Date: 13-12-2004

Hi, My name is Debbie. I have a small bottle collection that I have not been able to find any value for or in some cases what the bottles even had in them. But my newest find, I bought for $1.00 at the thrift store and it is quite neat. Let me give you a description and then if you are interested I can send you some pictures of my collection to see if you can't help me identify them. The bottle I bought last week for a dollar is a Full Measure 1/2 gallon canning jar with a clamp on style glass lid. The markings on the bottom of the bottle read: Jar made in Italy 1965 Crownford China Company The side of the bottle has a medallion type style symbol, out to the side on the right side of the bottle it says full measure. On the left side of the medallion it says registered 1898. And then at the bottom of the medallion it reads 1/2 quart. Like I said if you are interested in taking the time to see my bottle collection I can take some pictures and send you to see what you can help me find out about them. I also have a few old tins, I don't know if your expertise is in them or not. Please reply and let me know. I thank you for taking the time to read my email to you. Thanks Again, Debbie~ Salt Lake City, Utah

Subject: Black Gold

Date: 13-12-2004

I am so pleased to finally see the existence of "Black Gold" whiskey on the internet, or anywhere. We, my boyfriend and I, moved into a 1930's fixer-upper as an investment and in the pantry cabinet, top shelf, found a bottle, unopened, unsealed, in the box, of "Black Gold". We were blown away after reading the information on the bottle. I am more than willing to describe it to you if you think it may be worth something - we surely do. Hey, I don't play games so here it is, and may be something you will completely disregard, but, The front reads: Black Gold (in the old English letters you showed on your website) There is a circle stating "18 Summers old" The Seal is still intact and on the front of the bottle (over the cap) reads: Produced By THE ROSSVILLE DISTILLING CO. Distillery No. 7, Indiana. I read in your piece on the Wathens, they had moved to Indiana around 1912. The bottle we have, according to the back seal, was DISTILLERY BONDED WAREHOUSE NO. 19 DISTRICT OF KY. The seal also reads BOTTLED FALL 1931 - MADE SPRING 1914. I'm excited about this bottle because of the seal or label on the bottom of the back of the bottle that reads: BOTTLED BY THE AMERICAN MEDICINAL SPIRITS COMPANY AT DISTILLERY BONDED WAREHOUSE NO. 19 5TH DIST. OF KY. PERMIT NO. KY-P 19 100 PROOF WHISKEY --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOR MEDICINAL PURPOSES ONLY. SALE OR USE FOR OTHER PURPOSES WILL CAUSE HEAVY PENALTIES TO BE INFLICTED. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRODUCED BY THE ROSSVILLE DISTILLING CO. DISTILLERY NO. 7 6TH DIST. INDIANA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CAUTION NOTICE This bottle has been filed and stamped under the provisions of the act of Congress approved March 3, 1897, entitled "an act to allow the bottling of distilled spirits in bond." Any person who shall reuse this bottle for the purpose of containing distilled spirits without removing and destroying the stamp affixed to this bottle, or shall reuse the stamp affixed to this bottle, will be liable for each such offense to a fine of not less than one hundred nor more than one thousand dollars, and to imprisonment for not more than two years. Well, that's about it. It's what we have. I feel like I've gone back in time and that is pretty incredible. But, on the other hand, my sweetie keeps threatening to have a sip and sell shots, but I'm afraid it would kill him - HAHA! Anyway, if you are the least bit interested, as I feel we have a true relic,  Thanks for reading, Suzanne

Digger, I came across your website in an attempt to track down the origin and history of the attached Early Times bottle. They are a contact's who is wondering about the origin and value. They contacted Brown-Forman, the distillers of Early Times, who were unclear about any specifics about the bottle except to say that it was produced at the Shively, KY plant and it looks a lot like the 1950s. It resembles one of the famous Raymond Loewy decanters done in the 50's for Old Forester, But they weren't pink. Is this a limited edition of some sort? It is 100 proof and bottled in bond, which as far as I know, Early Times was not either on a regular basis. Many thanks for any light you can shed on this, Meghan Murray

Hi. I am trying to determine what colors of bottles would have been available for use in building "ships in a bottle" in England in the 1820s. Presumably the builder would be using as clear a bottle as would have been available to him at that time in order to see the ship inside. Also, how early would the bottles have become clear or almost clear? I have seen one reference suggesting that clear bottles would not be readily available until the early 1830s. Do you agree? Thank you so very much for any information you can provide! Bonnie

I have 2 bottles that I purchased at auction in October. They both have Wetmore Mineral Springs Co Wetmore, Kans. embossed on the side. They are round bottles. I have information on Nemaha Co, Kansas that states in 1881/82 the springs at Wetmore were analyzed and these bottles were the product of what followed. Both bottles have several small bubbles in the glass. By the description of glass that I have researched I would describe both of them as Excellent. They are both clean, no nicks or chips, no stains. "Bottle 1" is 7 "tall, smooth base w/ embossed (letter W), aqua, BIM, crown top. Crazing can be felt w/ fingertips on the neck. This crazing begins from the 7 o'clock position on the shoulder of the bottle leading to the 1 o'clock position at the base of the crown. (slightly twisting, not vertical). "Bottle 2" is 7"tall, smooth base w/ embossed (letters C&W), aqua, BIM, crown top. This bottle has a " slice shaped open bubble inside the neck. This bottles glass is thicker and the lettering on the side is deeper/ more pronounced than bottle #1. That is all the information I have for you. I would appreciate whatever you can tell me. The 76 bottle was not made for the bicentennial it was bottled by coke back in the 50's as their lemon-lime. I would guess their bottle is from that period. 76 is still bottled today by an independent bottler in Wisconsin, producing about 1-5K cases per year. The newer the bottles dated in the 70's are much rarer, and the 80's the cans are even harder to find. The bottle is worth $12 to a collector. Her 76 bottle looked in fairly good condition. I can say I am some what an expert on the 76 bottle, the company was founded by my grandfather and I have a fairly large collection. I just today stumbled upon this site and your question of earlier this year. I'm sure by now you have info on the company and the James B. It is a 17 1/2 inch bottle of yellow liquor. on the label it says liquor galliano specialty of DILTA ANTURO either a P or a V ACCARI of LIVORNO ITALY thats the label. also on the label is a pic of some red bricks kinda looks like a lego and its sitting on some grass with mts in the back ground. it is 80 proof. on the bottom of the label it says made and bottled by distillerie riunite di liquor-solaro (italy) from a secret and ancient formula exclusively for and imported by McKesson Liquor Co new york,N.Y. it also has a type of pic of the soldier that is on the soldier decanter that I have ran across. it has an italian color wrap on the top,has never been open. also comes with a spicket i think thats what you call it,it goes inside so you can pour it and it also is in the Italian colors red ,green, white. there is a label that goes across the top with the date of 2-1 and a 4 some thing, it is torn off right there so i am thinking from the 40's. do you know any thing about this bottle or where i can research it? thank you so much for any info shirl

Hello, I have a bottle which is 11 inches tall and about 3 inches wide. It looks quite old and it appears to be some sort of glazed stoneware bottle. It is quite heavy and is an off-white color. It also has little black specks through it. It has the following markings: Two crowns on the top front of the bottle and a "BW" monogram on the bottom front of the bottle (as seen in pictures). I once heard a rattling in the bottle and I extracted what appears to be a bottle stopper (pictured top right). The handle appears to be made of a rough fabric and the stopper of wood. I was wondering if you know anything about this bottle- when it was made, by whom and the value of it? Regards, Sarah

I've tried a few times to look up the markings and nothing really comes of it. It appears to be a machine-made bottle. I don't really believe I'll find it to be very old. But, I can't find out anything about it. Please see the bottle at the following address, my personal webpage. http://webpages.charter.net/geno7/Bottle If you could help me, I would really appreciate it. Hi digger - i have two different bottles that i would like to know a little bit about, the circa, value and whatever else you may know. I have sent quite a few pictures, probably more than you want. The first bottle is the ceramic or porcelain decanter which is 11.75 tall with stopper. It is approx. 5.50" wide and about 2" deep. The mark on the bottom is a raised circle. There is a wreath, a shield amd a crown above that. (pictures attached). The second is a rallo bottle. It is about 16.50" tall and 5" across at the base. The one picture i have shows a blue streak in the glass - i didn't know if this could be something odd or not. The stopper is porcelain. The bottom does not have any markings. It is somewhat concave and in the middle there is a 1" full circle raised. Anything you can tell me, i would be very grateful. Hello! I read with interest this information from your site--November 2001 questions: Hi, I have a SCALF's Indian River medicine bottle in package and unopened. it has all documentation and is still full and I would like to know a little history and value of this medicine bottle. It seems to be a herbal remedy for all ailments but I can only go by the propaganda on the box and inserted paper. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick Scalf's Indian River Medicine Company was in La Follette, Tennessee. The local library had very few resources to help but they did locate the business as being operated between 1955 and 1962 by Mrs. Dessa Scalf. The bottles are not that uncommon to be found with label and contents which included about 8% alcohol. Digger ---What I have is a newspaper clipping "Asthma troubled him; Hadn't slept soundly for several months." It is an undated newspaper article about Scalf's Indian River Tonic and is a testimonial from H.C. Clinton (my GGGrandfather). (Lived 1850 to 1925 in Knoxville, Tennessee.) The opposite side of the newspaper clipping mentions President Harding. Maybe you found the second generation of producers???? Is there any chance you could put me in touch with the author of the original question?? I would love to find out more of the bottle's history. Also, would love to own a bottle. Where would I find one? Thanks! Becky Ball

I have a question for you that does not relate to bottles--although I have a few that need identifying--- like what appears to be an old pottery type moonshine jug? It's real old and looks handmade or something. The handle is crooked and the whole jug looks real crude-like. Anyhow, what interests me right now is a brick dated July 6, 1782. It has some sort of rib or design on one side as if it were a banner brick? I have done some research and found out about the brick tax act and this is one of the larger sized bricks that were a result of that tax. Do people even collect bricks?? Hello and thank you for the opportunity to write to you for some help, My Grandmother gave me an old bottle or perhaps jar and she says she thinks it was either her grandmothers or great grand mothers (she is in her 70's). It does not look like a particularly special jar, however because it has been in the family so long it is to me. I have attached a small photo but it is not very good quality as it was taken by my mobile phone camera. It has 'Made by Vulcan Glass Works Sydney' in raised letters on the base of the jar and 'This bottle always remains the property of Holbrooks limited' written again in raised text around the body at the bottom. It has no other markings. It has a 'mold line' ring around the bottom of the body under the text and two up the body which end half way up the lip, about an inch from the top of the lip. The glass seems to be quite uneven in thickness although is very thick all round. My grandmother believes it had a cork seal however this may not be correct. It is 215mm total hight, 140 across at the base and 90mm across at the opening. I am hoping you may be able to help me establish what it would have been

used for and an approximate date. I have tried searching on the internet however have not had any luck. Thank you very much for any info you can provide, Nicole Gwatking South Australia

I am trying to get information on an old Clorox bleach bottle for my mother. A picture is included, and here is a written description of what we see on the bottle. It is approximately 10.5 inches tall and circular, with a round handle on the neck. It has a screw-top, but no cap. CLOROX is spelled out all around the top, in large capitals, with the same again in smaller capitals just underneath. CLOROX is repeated again on the bottom, which has a type of textured pattern to it, and the word "Duraglas" is written in script there, as well. The mold seam goes over the lip, and there is no pontil on the bottom. There is a large diamond on the bottom with CLOROX in the center. Above the left top side of the diamond is DEC, and on the right is U S. On the bottom left of the diamond is PAT, and letters or numbers on the bottom right are undecipherable. There is dirt or staining of some kind on the interior, but there are no chips or cracks anywhere on the bottle. Any information on its age and value would be of interest. Hi! I'm one of those durned newbies! I just got interested in learning something about the 20 or so antique bottles I've had sitting around "looking pretty" for the last 30 years. In the meantime I've read just about your whole site and know I need to pick up a book or two, but I just couldn't wait and picked the two I think (from your site info) may be the most interesting. One is a dark green British soda, so I've written to the British expert on your contact list about it. The other is a soda from Boston and I thought maybe you could give me a bit of insight. It is about 10" tall, a blob top with irregularities at the underneath edge of the blob. The bottle itself is absolutely irridescent! I assume that is some aging process on an originally aqua glass? There's an embossed oval on the front that reads "Jacob Wirth, 37 & 39 Eliotts, Boston" Embossed in very large letters on the back in 3 lines is: "This bottle not to be sold". The base of the bottle has what I believe is an Owens ring and the letters "E L" and a "4" embossed. If you have the time to give me any information on this bottle's history, I would be very grateful. Thanks so much. Kate McMahon

Dear Sir/Madam, My sincere apologies if this email does not meet your business and personal ethics. I will introduce myself as a staff in the accounts management section of a well-known bank here in the United Kingdom. One of our accounts with a balance of L15,000,000 (Fifteen Million British Pounds) has been a dormant account and not been operated for the past 4 years. From my investigations, the owner of this account, a foreigner, Austin Martins died in August 2000 and since then nobody has done anything as regards the claiming of this money because he has no family members who are aware of the existence of neither the account nor the funds. Also information from the Home Office shows that he was also single on entry into the UK. I have secretly discussed this matter with some of the bank officials and we have agreed to find a reliable foreign partner to deal with. We thus propose to do business with you, standing in as the next of kin of these funds from the deceased and funds released to you after due processes have been followed. This transaction is totally free of risk and troubles as the fund is a legitimate and does not originate from drug, money laundry, terrorism or any other illegal act. If you are interested, let me hear from you. Regards, Gordon.

I found on your webpage the exact same bottle as stated below by Tony. You valued the bottle b/w $3-$5. Would that be the same price in 2004-2005? ""Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery" On one side "Buffalo, NY" and on the other is "R.V. Pierce. M.D. The top is of the double collar variety you describe and there are no machine markings on the bottom. From this information are you able to tell if the bottle is worth anything? If so how much? Thank you for your time. Tony " Your answer was: ?Tony, Let me introduce you to Dr. Ray Vaughn Pierce. The Golden Medical Discovery was first used in 1871 and the trademark for the name is still active, renewed for the fourth time in 1986. Here are his words about the product written in 1876. Your bottle probably dates closer to the 1890s. It has a value of $3-5. Digger"

I am afraid so.

Hello Digger, I need to know a little about a bottle my dad has. The bottom of the bottle is engraved with.. D P L Solaro (Italy) 1893. (picture attached). It appears to have been a wine bottle, but I'm not sure. The bottle is in a metal rack. There is a metal faucet at the bottom of the bottle with handle. The bottle tapers going up, then has flat sections on top with curves on bottom. The bottle is clear glass. The stand has 4 legs with rubber covering the leg foot. Thank you in advance for any info you can share. Sincerely, David Thomas

Subject: Pump.

Date: 29-12-2004

Hi Digger, I read one of your dig stories about a wet privy. You spoke of needing a pump to finish the dig. Could you recommend a pump I could use for we pits. I need some experienced advise and don't want to waste my money or time on something that won't do the job. I'd appreciate your input. Thanks, John.

-Subject: Re: Pump. We found no pump which worked great. For the most part we would rental a gas powered pump and 3" hose. The first problem is having enough water depth to prime the pump. The problem is that the water does not come fast enough and the pump pumps it out quickly. When the pump runs out of water is can easily lose its prime. The water in the hose runs back into the hole when you lose prime or turn it off. We would dig a pump hole into the bottom put a bucket 5 gal into the hole and then put the business end of the hose into the hole..then when water runs back down it stays in the bucket and the pump has enough water for prime. Never easy. Digger

Thanks for the info. Do you think an electric dirty-water pump might work using the bucket technique? Those gas suckers are just so heavy to lug about. John.

Date: 30-12-2004

Hello! I have a bottle here that has embossed on it" John L Krautter S. W. Cor Canal & Beavers Philda PA". A internet search only found me info about a brewery that was in existance until 1897. On back of bottle along bottom rim it says "This bottle not be sold" It has obvious air bubbles in the glass and a blob top. The seam runs 3/4 of the way up the bottle. There is a number 37 stamped on bottom. The bottle is clear and in very good condition. It does have a few minor scratch marks, no chips. Any idea how old this bottle is and any other info would be appreciated. Bottle was found during an excavation in NJ. Thanks. Amy

Subject: Re:Jack Daniels bottle

Date: 31-12-2004

I have a Jack Daniels old time distillery bottle in the round 1/5 size. I know you would need a picture of the bottle to determine the exact condition of the bottle, I am not able to send any pictures at this time. I can tell you that is was dug in South Carolina and I have acquired it. I can give you a brief description of it at this time. It has a small nick in the very top of the lip about the size of a house fly, and it has some lime deposits in the bottle. Overall condition of the bottle in my opinion is about 50- 75% from new. I would like to sell this bottle and would like your honest opinion on what a bottle like that would bring? If you would know about that particular bottle and possibly what it would bring. I trust your opinion since you are the leading expert on bottles from what I have read. I am not trying to nail you down to a specific price for the bottle. I know that would be impossible for you to do. I am looking for a ball park figure on that bottle. I would like to know your opinion on tumbling this bottle, would this hurt the value or will it help me to get more money for it? I know about 10 years ago when I was into bottle collecting it was frowned upon. I have since been out of touch with collecting and what is considered acceptable for enhancing the bottles appearance. Thank you for your time. Jody Becknell

Digger, I have an old bottle, it has no embossing, and I have no picture. But the bottle is 6 7/8"h X approx. 2 1/8"w at base. The mouth has a seam line running over the top and the mouth, as I found it on the net, is I believe called square applied. The base has a seam around bottom. The bottle itself is round and in great condition (no chips or cracks). It does have a slight amethyst tint and a pearlized look to it. I would like to know what exactly I have here, is it junk or it is a treasure. Thanks, Joshua
