Was recently given a gift, Dougherty Whiskey, made in 1911, and bottled in Phil. , PA, 1930, unopened and in the original box. What is the value?
Up until a few years ago
they had little attention from collectors. Now they are beginning to bring
some money especially those pre-prohibition bottles, unopened, in the original
boxes. I'd estimate without seeing it $75-100.

Hello, My cousin asked me to research a bottle. It still has its cork, with liquid inside. The bottle is in the figure of a young lad leaning against a tree in a blue coat holding a pipe in his right hand and his left hand in his pocket. The base has flowers and fruit. The label reads Hulse Import Company, San Francisco import # calif 1 911. What do you think it is? best, Adrienne and Babette

I have an old Sparkletts water bottle that belonged to my grandmother and would like any info you can give on it. It's a blue-green in color, "barrel-shaped", about 10" tall, with a raised "diamond" pattern around the barrell and the neck is slightly flared with a 2" opening (with no cap or lid). The front of the bottle has "Sparkletts" within an elongated raised diamond emblem. On the bottom is "Sparkletts Artisian Water Co. , Los Angeles" and "For service, call AL1171". The bottle is in good shape with no cracks or chips. If you know of it's history and/or value, I would greatly appreciate it!!Thank You so much, Gail Scott

I have a whiskey bottle that we found on a fishing trip north of Paradise Ca. about twenty-five years ago, I'll do my best to describe it. I'm hoping to get a close dating on it and to see if maybe it's not a very common bottle. total height is 11- 3/4 inches, color is dark amber ( brown), seams run up the sides to the lower edge of the pour spout, the top looks like it was put on by hand and has the small notch for pouring. The embossed label is as follows: center at top of main body-" trade mark " surrounded by stag antlers, encircling the center- "JESSE MOORE & CO. ,LOUISEVILLE KY. " In the center- "C. H. MOORE & CO. OLD BOURBON & RYE". Along the bottom front-"MOORE, HUNT & CO. SOLE AGENTS". I would really appreciate any information you may be able to find on this bottle as I have always been curious about it's history. Thank you, Rick . Thank you for any help you may have, Rick

I recently found an old bottle (guessing 1930-) that appears to be an old soda bottle. It has "Like-me" written on it and features an embossed woman dressed in a skirt. The bottle has "Charleston, SC" on the bottom, and appears to have produced at Laurens Glass Works in Laurens, SC. Can you please tell me what exactly what kind of beverage "like-me" was, what dates it was produced/sold, and what states it was produced in. Many thanks, Michael
Thanks for the response Digger. I did look through your designer section, and although I see similar shapes, I did not see a match. I guess I should have given you more specific information, sorry about that. The bottle is about 8 3/4 inches tall. It is an 8oz. bottle. It is clear & round. It has a slightly thinner waist giving the appearance of being "cinched. " It appears to be machine made as it has a "crease" that runs the length of the bottle. The bottle has a crown top that looks almost like modern day bottle tops. The bottle has a design at the bottom & around the "neck" at the top. It's hard to describe, but looks like sideways diamonds & tiny checkers. Around the bottom rim it reads "contents 8 fl. oz. " & "I 383" & "4LGW4" (which I believe is Laurens Glass Works). The bottle is embossed with a lady holding her hands straight up with "Like-me" written in cursive above her outstretched hands. Under "Like-me" it reads "Trademark Reg" in small print. The lady is wearing what appears to be a "Charleston (think the dance) dress complete with a headband. The bottom of the bottle (underneath) reads "Charleston SC. "I first discovered this bottle buried under my father's house on Sullivan's Island, SC. My father's house was actually the first school house on Sullivan's Island and dated back to 1900. I also found many other bottles including "Aunt Winslow's Soothing Syrup. " Most of the others were unmarked. I think Like-Me was a cola produced in Charleston between 1920-1940, but I have no proof. You would think with the internet at my hands that I would be able to identify the bottle & company, but I haven't had any luck so far. I'll keep looking, I just wanted to give you some more information. Thanks

Hi, I'm a collector not of bottles, but of bird items. I have purchased a 1969 Jim Beam Blue Jay decanter which was damaged in shipping. It was insured, but I need to get an estimate of the approximate value to present to FedEx with my damage claim. The decanter seems to be in near-new condition, other than the fact that the cork was broken out of the head of the figure in shipping (seller sold it intact condition). Any information would be really appreciated, just an approximate price range. And I'd probably have to give just your name and position as a collector/seller as validation. Much thanks for any assistance, wynnesome

I have an old beer bottle from the Walter's Brewing Co in Pueblo, Colorado. The bottle was dug up, it appears to be very old. It is molded (with seams on the side) amber colored, embossed on the front in an oval that says, The Walter Brewing Co, Pueblo, Colo. It looks like the seam on the side stops before the top was put on. On the bottom is SB&C Co, there is the number 19 on the side of the lower part of the bottle right by the seam. Walter's Brewery was started in Pueblo in 1868 by Martin Walter from Wisconsin, and closed in the mid 1970's. I would appreciate anything you can tell me about this bottle, age, value etc. There is a natural bubble in the glass, a few surface chips and mars but no cracks. Thanks a lot. Jonna Adamich

Dear Digger: My husband and I found this rare treasure at an estate sale in Illinois. We were wondering if you knew how old this rare find is. We have not seen anywhere where in the price guides the long neck, it is two inches longer than the rest. The mold seem does not continue to all the way to the top of the bottle. This fish is 14 inches tall. There is no mold no or any markings on the bottom. This bottle is clear not amber. And don't appear to have had any other color paint or stains. Thank you.

Hi Digger, Maybe you can help me out: a very early pontiled torpedo embossed 'Haddock & Son' has come up for sale here. The assumption by the seller is that it is English, but I believe these are most likely to be American bottles? They are very different from any other early ENglish torpedo, with unusual rounded body shape and round rather than tapering end. Dennis Northmore, the main authority on UK torpedos who unfortunately died a couple of years ago, was sure they were American. I believe he said from one of the east coast cities? Jerry

Dear digger, While in the woods with my friend we found an old junk pile. The area is fairly large. We found all sorts of junk including bottles. 2 bottles im curious of in paricular. One is a 32 oz Clorox Bleach Bottle, amber in color. It still has its cap that says "CLOROX" the triangle on the bottom also has "CLOROX" in the center and has the patent stuff on it and has the numbers "4-8" on the bottom of the base. the other bottle is a small one that says "The Bayer" going up one side and "Company" going down the other on the 2 faces of the bottle. I'm figuring it's an old aspirin bottle. We sort of dated our junk pile by finding 2 pennies one year of 1917 and the other 1941. So we figure the crap in it is from the 20s to maybe the late 50s. We've light bulbs and parts of farming tools seeing that the land used to be a farm. I know its not a privy because the are is too vast. I want to find a privy though, it would be great. Thanks for your time. -Sam

Hello, We recently had to dig up a gas line on my in-laws property and found a bunch of old bottles. Most were broke but I did salvage a variety of them. I was just wondering if you could tell me anything about them. I have included a picture of some of them. There is one that looks to be a baby bottle, amber color, having the following markings on bottom. 10 then what looks to be a capital A in a circle and then 64 under that is 116. There are no other makings like ounces, etc. , some of the others have markings such as a B in a circle. I don't know if you can tell anything from the picture. They measure about 2 to 4 inches tall and I don't see any seams on the sides or top. There is one that has a very rusty lid on it. Hope this is enough info to get something. I was just curious about them. I always find it neat when I come across old things and like to know a little about them. You never know when that old thing might be worth something. Thanks in advance for any info you can offer. Tracy Bean

I don't have a question about a bottle but about a brass cap. I's round on the top,it says old Mr. Boston (around top edge) across the bottom of the cap it says fine liquors. It's not in the best of shape, I found it 30 years ago in a freshly plowed wheat field and had been run over at least. It is 1 and 3/4 of an inch high and about the same wide. I have searched over the years and not been able to come up with anything. Even a direction to go in would be great. Thank you, Ginger

Back in the 1930's, there was an aluminum tube, shaped like a shepard's crook, which was 'dropped' into a milk bottle for the purpose of separating the cream from the top of the bottle. When 'dropped', the cream ran from the tube (into a container) until it reached the lower level of the cream where a hole in the tube permitted the loss of suction and the flow stopped. I have searched many web sites to find a site where I might buy one of these antiques. Have you any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Dick Adams (Age 76 !!)

Date: 17-01-2004 DEAR Digger, I have two bottles. Both I believe they are from the same company. The first one is around and looks like a soda bottle on the front of it , it has MILLVILLE BOTTLE in an high arch going toward the top of the bottle. Underneath that in a smaller arch going towards the bottom it has the word WORKS. Just above that it has 1888. Below the label that is raised it has THIS BOTTLE NOT above BE SOLD below that. The color of the bottle is blue with some small bubbles and various raised marks on the outside of it. It is 10"1/4 inches high and 2"1/4 inches wide at the bottom. It narrows at the top to 1" and has a white ceramic or porcelain top that is held on by a flip top wire bail. It has a heart shaped hole the wire goes through with 3 dots one at the top and 2 below it. It has USA, GFM, and HILA. The other bottle I have is blue fish that is 7"1/2 inches tall, 3" at the base. The mouth of it is 1"1/4 wide. The right side it has DOCTOR FISCH'S BITTERS raised just below the eye of the fish. The left side just below the eye it has MILLVILLE NEW JERSEY. Both of the writing arch from the top to the bottom then back to the top again. At the bottom of the fish underneath it has recessed house type marking with the letters WHLATOH H. Thank you very much for your time. I also want to know if you know anything about " The Ideal steam cooker and baker" from the The Toledo Cooker Company Toledo, Ohio U. S. A dated Feb. 5, 1907? Again Thank you very much. Tina" but I have an item that gives a lot more information on the Toledo Cooker Company if the lady is interested. Hello, While reading through your site I came across a question posted by Earl Waites 02-11-04 concerning a "Whistle Bottle". The bottle in his photo is the same as a bottle I have. However, the bottle I have reads just a little different. Mine reads " Off. Bot. Pat. Applied for Reg U. S. Pat. " At the upper portion of the bottle, under the word "Whistle" on one side it reads "registered" On the base of mine it reads " Seattle " across the base with a number 7 above the word Seattle, and a star with an embossed "S" at the center of the star. The star is located below the word Seattle. So I guessing that Seattle may be a start as to the origins of the bottle. Any info you could provide myself on this bottle would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks, Mark Chuitt, Lewiston, Id.

Attached is a strangely shaped bent-neck bottle that I picked up at a garage sale. Most distinctive is the applied spout which has only a 2mm opening, its end is coarsely ground off. The top lip has the same sort of closure "threads" found on a metal ketsup bottle, very faint lettering at base "PATENT***". Mold lines are readily visible, glass is clear, multiple panels surround the neck and the bowl of the bottle, is ~ 9" high. I have a similar much older one found while cleaning out mother-in-law's farmhouse. It is aqua, the same funnel shaped spout with an opening the size of a pencil lead. It has no markings on it, and has an open pontil and is about 4" high. It's obviously made for a specific use with its unusually small spout opening - can you give me any direction on research? as a wine decanter, any lees from the bottom would get stuck in the opening, as a grease/gravy separator it too would have problems with the spout size, the back-bent neck makes it very ergonomic to pour from, someone said they saw beer sold in Germany in this sort of bottle. Helllp! Linda Cleminshaw

Here is a photo of one of them. I have researched that they are dated between 1815-1869 I think I searched the company web-site in Holland. Company started in 1575 but moved to Rotterdam in 1869. Therefore, I have deducted they are prior to that date since they are marked Amsterdam. What value are they?

I am trying to get more information about the ERVEN LUCASBOLS HET LOOTSJET AM STERDAM 3/4 LITRE clay bottle. Looks like it has been salt glazed. I need this information quickly at someone will be coming over to buy them in two days. I have no idea what they are worth. If you can help, I would truly appreciate. Thank you in advance.

Hello Digger, Below is an article I found on your website and you indicate that the person asking the question should check out the January 1999 response. It appears that response has been purged off of your website. Can you either send me the response or tell me how I can find it. Thanks Harold Clark I don't have any idea about antique bottles, but I have an old "looking" White house vinegar bottle. It is clear glass with a floral design all around it. A crown neck of some type and a flat bottom. On the bottom it says "White House Vinegar" in a circular pattern. Also on the bottom in says "patent pending" with the numbers "650" and "1". This bottle also has two "handles" on the top. It is approximately 8"tall, and the seams on the side go past the lip of the bottle. This bottle is in perfect condition.

Hello, my name is Candace and I've been learning so much about bottles from your website. You are so kind to share your vast knowledge with others as you do. I am sure that you are completely inundated with emails, so if you cannot answer mine I will understand. The question that I wanted to ask you is this: My friend found a place where there are a lot of old bottles. He knows that I sell items on Ebay and asked me to sell these bottles for him. Obviously that requires some research since I don't know their value offhand. That's what lead me to your site. The bottle is a brown 7UP bottle that I have seen referred to as the 7up Bubble Girl Bottle with applied color label. It is in pretty good condition except that a lot of the label is no longer legible. You can read the backside of it though, just not the side where 7up was once printed. I know that these bottles fetch a good price when they are in good condition, but since the label has worn off so much, I really have no idea what kind of reserve price to put on this bottle. I don't have a picture of it yet or I would send it to you. If you have time to answer I'd appreciate it. Thanks! Candace

Date: 03-01-2003 Dear digger, I will try to describe this bottle the best I can. I am not an expert. I found this bottle on a trash heap at a construction site. it just interested me because of the bottom lettering. . . . . property of coca cola bot-co ft. Myers fl the bottom side has the numbers c878 and design pat'd. no. 86746. The coke plant here in ft Myers was burned by a gang of teens a few years back calling themselves the lords of chaos. They shotgunned a man to death the next night. the historical building has since been demolished. the shape of the bottle is like no coke bottle I have seen. Maybe it is some other kind of soda. it is 8 inches tall, greenish, the seam seems to go to just the mouth and then looks to go around the circumference of the mouth there is three rings at the bottom of the neck and one in the middle of the bottle. That's the best I can describe it without a picture. Anything you may be able to tell me about it from this information would be appreciated. . . . . . . thanks vince" Please let me know or if you need a pic Will Wasdin

Dear Digger, Today, I purchased a bottle at an antiques mall, and was wondering if you had any information about it. It is a clear glass bottle. The front has a painted label that says, "Kool-Aid", with "First in Flavor" below it. It is an 8 oz. bottle, and the back says that it was "Bottled under license from Perkins Products Co. , Chicago, ILL" "Bottled by: Kool-Aid Bottling Company, Columbus, Ohio". I would really like to have as much info as possible. Also, the bottom of the bottle says, "Patented, July 16, 1940. . . . . . . . . . . . . No121514. . . . . . . . . . . . . . When we found the question and your answer we were of course very surprised to read that your inquisitor had also found the identical bottle on a beach in the Bahamas. Your answer to that person certainly answered our questions about the bottle also, however, ours has no "6" on the bottom. Thanks for the info and the amusement, Hugh in the Exumas

I have attached two pics in JPG format. The bottle is approximately 2 ¼ inches high and approximately ¾ inches wide. The seam extends all the way through the lip. It has “CETS” embossed on the bottom with “IT” under it. On the side it has the number “11”. The bottle appears to be flat on 3 sides with one side bowing out. The glass also has a lavender tint to it. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you Tim Knotts

Hi. I found this question on your website from Nov 2002. I have the exact same bottle. Is it worth anything? Thank you. Mike Worth, Mt Laurel NJ I accidentally came across your site and was quite intrigued since I had recently obtained a bottle which I was curious about. anyway, I would like to know if it is worth anything. I got it for $2. it is a sunsweet prune juice bottle. it is green glass, round shape (diameter 5") on 2 sides with other 2 sides 3" (like a boyscout canteen) about 6 inches in height and also has the words on the bottom "embossed" (i'm not sure what the term is but the words are raised and part of the glass) "Sunsweet, (next line) pat. appl'd. for" it also has above the words an emblem that looks like Saturn: a circle with a ring around it with the numbers 3 on one side and 6 on the other. the lip is definitely not a screw on type as there are no ridges of that sort. but the lip does come out like a ring around it about a centimeter down. it looks like it has been blown since there is an irregular but very light circle on the base. whether it is worth anything or not, it's pretty and i'll enjoy it. just curious. thank you for any info. hyun

Hello Digger, I have searched your site, and others, and can't find out the value or background of this bottle. It may be pre-prohibited. I will start at the top. The screw on metal cap is embossed with "Paul Jones, Antique, Four Roses" on top. The entire bottle is embossed with a ship and pirate sceen. The back has an imbedded label with "Paul Jones Whiskey, one pint 100 proof, Bottled under U. S. Government supervision at the Frankfort Distillery, No 33 Dist. of KY Permit KY. -P-2, Louisville Kentucky Produced Fall 1915, Allen- Bradley Company Dist of Kentucky, For medicinal purposes only Sale or use for other purposes will cause heavy penalties to be inflicted". It has a wheat type design around the edges, in Gold. Under that is a space embedded for a label that is missing. The front , has an imbedded label with "Paul Jones, U. S. A. SPIRITUS FRUMENTI". On the bottom is an embossed centered diamond shape with the #3 under it. We live in an old home from the 1800's and have been tearing out inside walls to add real insulation, and drywall. We have found many OLD newspapers and bottles and cast iron pans that I assume were used as insulation at one time. Strange, but true. I sure would appreciate it if you could help me to find out the bottles background and value. If you have time please email your findings to me with Reply. I have a hard time finding the answers to questions people ask, But your site is very interesting and must take you forever to keep up on. Thank you so much for your time and effort in this task. Hi Digger, I found the attached bottle at a garage sale. It says Inne Dispensables on the bottom. It has a fancy embroidered border at the base and tthe glass is tinted green. Do you know anything about this bottle? Also, I know where a bottle dump is but it is in a neighbor hood and no one else knows or thinks of it any more, I was a kid (early 70"s) when I found it. (I didn't know what I had then, but do now). (Sort of). I have been back to the site since and the vegetation obscures it and is it off the beaten path and will probably remain undiscovered for quite some time to come. It is between houses but on the edge of the wilderness. It was on a military base. Got any suggestions on how to acess it without causing a stir? The dump was pretty big and really deep, it towered over my head. It consisted mostly of bottles but also contained old shavers, lace up boots and silverware, milk bottles as well as blue cobalt. It was uncovered during construction but covered up so no one would get hurt. Thanks for your time and help. Any information would be appreciated. Diane in Colorado.

Let me begin by thanking you for taking my question. I have searched your site and have found some related information, but was wondering if you could give me some specifics on the origin of this perfume bottle I found in the wall of a Brockton, MA home in 1969. It has the paper label and says 'VIOLETTE' The side label reads Roger & Gallet Paris. It has a stamp on it that reads Roger Gallet Grand Prix Paris 1889. I was just wondering if that would be the date of the bottle and about what it would be worth, as well as any history you may be able to share. Thank you again for taking my question. Harry Shaw FL

I read the question regarding the 'Lotes' dimpled bottle. I believe it is the right company, wrong spelling. It is Loetz. They made high quality, artistic glass similar to Lalique, Tiffany, etc. and I imagine it is valuable. I know it's an old question, but if I was looking, I suspect others are too. Thanks, Janelle

Hello! Great website! Full of very interesting and useful material. I've been browsing for hours, and since I can't find what I'm looking for about this bottle, I decided to ask the pro. When I purchased this, I was told it was a poison bottle. It looked way too enticing to have held poison, and due to my curious nature, I think I've determined it is a Lundborg's perfume bottle. I held it up to the light, and much to my surprise, I could read the backwards etched letters 'Lundborg's Ocean Spray'. Then I read that Lundborg's sold fancy packaged perfume. It is quite large, measuring 9" tall. I can find nothing about this particular bottle and have been looking to purchase a vintage ad depicting it. Do you make any references to this particular line of bottles in your cologne's volume? This bottle may not have much value, but I like it. Thank you for your time and all the great information on your website. Janelle

Dear Mr. Odell, I am sending photos of a cobalt blue bottle to ask for your assistance in getting the history, age, use, value and any other pertinent info. This is the first time I have viewed your site and was very impressed and excited by it! My parents didn't know anything about it which leads me to believe it was part of my grandmother's many antique items. My grandparents lived in and around Pittsburgh, PA. and I understand my grandmother bought many antiques over the years. The bottle is a 2" diameter at the top, 2 5/8" diam at the base. Stands about 6 to 6 1/8" tall. The bottom seems to be an 'open pontil' . The top lip is a bit uneven (appears handblown) with a subtle dip or low-spout where the side-seam meets the top lip. It is embossed towards the bottom circumference with "SCHMIDT PATENT". From your site, I'm guessing it to be 1830's to 1855. . . ? I would appreciate any help~ Thanks, Shannon

I have such a bottle exactly as yours depicted. To give you information about it all I can say is that the bottle was given to me by a German Lady who I befriended. She said it was acquired by her husband in Germany during WWII. The bottle indicates 100 months old by a prominent label. I can then only surmise its age to 1945 minus 5 to 10 years. However unlike the bottle depicted in your photo, My bottle is still full of whiskey and has a vertical label (unbroken) red in color and faded some what bearing a serial number which connects the twist top to the bottle. Also at the bottom of the bottle is a on off dial and underneath a copper twist to wind and play a dancing scotchman to a simple musical tune. He bounces up and down but I think he would originally have rotated completely but I have no idea. I wonder how the scotch would taste after so many years :}. Hope this helps.

Dear Digger, When I was stationed in Key West, FL, in 1970, I took up the hobby of scuba diving. I was taught by a US Navy diver and became certifed. We became bored and started looking for artifacts in 30-50 feet of water around the Key West area. We found an old channel and started collecting what we thought were odd shaped coral groves. We took these odd shaped coral groves to a bottle shop because we new one of these was a bottle encrusted in the coral. He showed us how to remove the coral without damaging the bottle. This started my hobby of collecting bottles while I was in Key West. During one of my dives, I brought up a routine coral-encrusted bottle. After careful cleaning, it turned out to be a mint-condition US Navy mustard bottle identical to the ones brought up from the ironclad ships of the Civil War. This has been sitting in my closet for 35 years now. If you, or anyone, has a need for this bottle, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank You, Jim Bebout

I think it's a beer bottle, it is clear with a crown top, the seem runs all the to way to the top,12 oz. with no markings of any kind. The strange part is the bottom is round ( you cannot set it down vertically, only horizontally). I don't have a camera or I would send a picture. It appears to be in good condition, I rinced most of the dirt out of it, I haven't used a bottle brush or soap on it yet. Any info would be appreciated. . . . . . . . Thank you, Gary N.

Dear Sir: My
grandmother kept several old bottles around her house and I ended up with
one that used to contained one gallon of Garrett's wine. Attached
pictures will show the bottle and cork. Other numbers on bottom of
bottle are 3423 and a S with overlapping C's and then an O. The bottle
has grapes and vine on the exterior with an Eagle Garrett's American Wines
insignia. I read in your comments from April 2003 that Garretts was bought out or associated with Virginia Dare but there is
no mention of Virginia Dare on this bottle, which makes me wonder if it predates
the Virginia Dare period. The artwork appears to be that of George Smith
assignor to the Olean Glass company that you mentioned in that previous reply in
figure 1 (front) and figure 3 (back). The missing Virginia Dare and the fact
this bottle has only one finger grip versus two made we wonder if this bottle
would be dated later than 1936 and also what it's approx. value might be.

My great grandfather bottled and delivered seltzer in NYC using a horse drawn wagon in the early years of the last century. I would be very interested in purchasing the bottle if you would be so kind as to forward the e-mail address of the writer. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Michael Robbins this is the listing from your website:
Hi Digger, I have tried to find information about the name and bottle information on the web without any luck. I hope you can help me. I have a seltzer bottle that is a deep rich turquoise color, with etched script in old English, and leaves around the lettering on each side, like an oval frame. The lettering says:T. A. Mills. This name also appears on the spout, and is engraved into the metal. It says: T. A. Mills New York 67. Their are no seams to show where the bottle was joined together, if in fact it was. It is smooth with no seams. On the bottom of this bottle is engraved, (made in Czechoslovakia). I would really appreciate any information you could give me about this seltzer bottle and name that is etched on it. Best Regards, David
