OFTEN MORE BOTTLES ARE BROKEN THAN WHOLE. A WHOLE SODA, STILL WET BUT DRYING, SITS NEXT TO ONE WHOSE TOP IS MISSING.  OF COURSE THE BROKEN ONE IS THE BETTER BOTTLE.

THIS SHOT FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE, WHILE NOT IN CLEAR FOCUS, SHOW THE DARK AREAS OR THE LAYER.  THIS HOLE HAD A VERY THIN ARTIFACT LAYER.  THE FILL HAD BEEN MOSTLY JUST SAND AND CLAY.  IT HAD BEEN CLEANED OUT BEFORE IT WAS FILLED IN WHICH WAS WHAT THE LAWS OF THE TIME REQUIRED.

HERE'S A VIEW FROM THE BOTTOM LOOKING UP.  WHILE IT DOESN'T LOOK FAR IN THE PICTURE 22 FEET IS A LONG WAYS DOWN!

THE BOTTLES PETERED OUT QUICKLY BUT THE WORK OF CLEAN UP WAS FAR  FROM FINISHED. WITH THE TUBES OUT OF THE HOLE AND OUT OF THE YARD, ALL THAT REMAINED WAS THE ROCK LINED HOLE AND MORE THAN 50 BARRELS OF DIRT.

BY 7:00 PM THAT EVENING WE WERE TOO TIRED TO FINISH.  WE LEFT 20 SOME BARRELS TO BE DUMPED.  GUESS WHAT I'LL BE DOING NEXT WEEKEND?  MY WIFE THINKS I'M CRAZY.  DIGGER
